Improving communications across NSW

The Telecommunications program facilitates high speed access to information at an acceptable cost across fixed voice, mobile and broadband services, whilst seeking to create an equitable market where the NSW Government can leverage the use of its assets, now and into the future.

Rationale…

Our frontline services need:

  • Rapid and robust broadband to ensure the ongoing provision of effective and reliable service to businesses and residents of NSW
  • Fast transfer of information, with all the facts at their fingertips
  • Affordable telecommunications products/services and appropriate infrastructure that allows them to provide the best delivery for the lowest cost.

Our opportunity…

By coordinating telecommunications requirements across government agencies, we reduce the cost for the NSW Government as a whole, whilst reducing duplication and better managing government assets.

New Government Telecommunication Agreements contracts for voice and mobile services are delivering significantly savings.

Scope of the program…

Working across all communications technologies (mobile, broadband, wireless, satellite, telephony, internet) the program covers:

  • telecommunications convergence/integration
  • shared data and voice infrastructure and services
  • working with federal and other state and territory governments to enhance the development and effective use of broadband in Australia
  • telecommunications services benchmark framework to ensure government prices and service levels are inline with worlds best practice
  • asset management and procurement.

For example…

Every day, people in NSW rely on tools that use high capacity broadband to increase productivity.

Tools like videoconferencing use broadband to connect patients in remote and regional NSW to specialists in Sydney.

Broadband allows teachers to take advantage of many online resources whilst giving business the opportunity to reduce costs around travel and communication.

The Telecommunications program is about extending our essential services through quality broadband.
