Data Centre Reform

Data Centre Reform
Fulfilling the Government’s projected demand for data centre space, the program will investigate options for data centre reform including commissioning purpose-built data centres.
Rationale…
Across the NSW Government there are currently numerous data centres with various levels of resilience. Australia meanwhile, has a shortage of quality data centre space able to cope with anticipated future demands and appropriate environmental safeguards.
Our opportunity…
Existing agency data centres will not be able to meet future capacity, energy and cooling demands.
The benefits that will be realised from this program include:
- ability to adopt new technologies and enable efficiencies
- secure long-term supply of ‘state of the art’ data centre space
- opportunity to improve disaster recovery capability and better business continuity
- aggregate purchasing across government resulting in lower costs
- greater reliability of computing services for critical agency applications.
Scope of the program…
The program will investigate data centre reforms including commissioning purpose built data centres to improve security, capacity and consolidation data storage across government.
For example...
As the world seeks to reduce its carbon footprint, the NSW Government is finding ways to ensure that its impact on the environment is minimised.
Having more efficient data centre facilities using less electrical power automatically cuts costs and CO2 emissions. Good for government and good for the environment.
Currently emissions from NSW government data centres equate to emissions from around 24,400 cars. Data centre reform can reduce this impact whilst also lowering the overall cost of providing high quality services that our hospitals, schools and front line agencies use every day.
By planning and working together we can meet our future data storage needs whilst minimising our impact on the environment.
