Government Licensing Service

 Builder looking at plans

The Government Licensing Service simplifies licensing processes across NSW through a single integrated system that has already delivered over 600,000 licences online across 20 different licence types.

Rationale…

The Government is committed to simplifying processes through:

  • less red tape – simple, standardised processes
  • the continued improvement of services including online transactions and a  public register
  • equally important, whilst retaining a focus on compliance and security, is the reduction of capital and maintenance expenditure to optimise current resources.

Our opportunity…

  • the convenience of 24 hour access online, minimising the need to attend a branch  office during business hours
  • improved licence integrity through automated third party security verification of applicant particulars
  • provision of photo licences for trades people and professionals for those times when they are required to enter people’s homes or organisations such as nursing homes and aged care facilities
  • reduced costs by decommissioning duplicate systems and improving processes.

To date...

Simple, convenient licensing services for business owners, fishing, home builders, motor vehicle repairers, fund raising charities, property valuers, trade promotions and more are available by phone, online over the counter and BPay.

Scope of the program…

Streamlining licensing processes reducing red tape and providing 24 hour multi- channel access through an integrated licensing system.

For example…

The Government Licensing Service is all about government at your convenience.

A self employed builder, 12 months ago had to go to a Fair Trading Centre once a year to renew their licence with cash or a cheque.

Today, 1 in 3 builders renew their licences, at their convenience, through the online system – available 24 hours a day.

Commitments to December 2010

  • 1.8 million licences administered for Department of Serrvices, Technology & Administration, Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water, Communities NSW, NSW Health and Department of Industry & Investment.
  • Capacity for up to 250 people online at any point of time with 50 per cent of transactions online.
  • 102 licence types consolidated into 55 licence types, reducing red-tape for staff and the public.
  • Maritime Licences (mooring, recreational boating, etc).
