Data.NSW Goes Live !!!

Nov 09: On 4 September 2009, the Premier announced the launch of data.nsw.gov.au

data.nsw.gov.au is a site which provides access to NSW government data and information available online. You can follow the site on Twitter  at dataNSW and get notifications when new data is added.

Making our public sector information available increases the transparency and accountability of government, encourages innovation, and yields economic benefits.

The data.nsw catalogue was released with over 400 entries and has become the second largest government data catalogue in the world (after data.gov in the US). The catalogue provides a single point of access for public sector information which includes publications, spatial information, raw data, audio visual files and web services from agencies across the NSW.

To ensure data is usable and accessible, many formats are available and include; PDF, CSV, XLS, HTML, EPS, Zip, API, EMF, Geodatabase, MapInfo, JSON, and JPEG.

Overall it's a tremendous resource and will hopefully encourage other Australian governments to take similar steps.

The data catalogue was developed as part of the Collaborative Government Services Program, an initiative of the NSW Government Chief Information Office, a division of the Department of Services, Technology and Information.
