Telecommunications
Build an integrated government communications environment to provide for the rapid and robust transmission of information while reducing the total cost of telecommunications
The NSW Government spends in the order of $300 million per annum on telecommunications services and is one of the largest purchasers of these services in the country.
People First, the NSW Government ICT strategic Plan identifies three Programs of Works under the Telecommunications ICT Strategy. The three Programs of Work are:
Telecommunications Convergence
These three Programs of Work comprise many individual projects including projects to:
- Develop new purchasing options for government voice and mobile telecommunications services, such as the Government Telecommunications Arrangements
Explore new opportunities and develop improved purchasing options for procurement of Government Broadband Services
Develop gateways for agency to agency communications as well as for access to public networks
Develop standards and architectural frameworks for IP addressing, LANs and service and asset management
Enhance the government radio networks to provide more cost effective cross agency communications, through consolidation and improved coordination of upgrades to radio infrastructure
Develop applications frameworks for Voice-over-IP and Video-over-IP
Increase the use of wireless LANs and identify opportunities for the use of both wireless & mobile hybrid phones
